Snapshots of Life in the Engel Group

What wonderful students remembering my birthday. (Their attempt to keep me out of my office failed.) Greg posing next to the original FMO structure solved in 1978 by Brian Matthews (Univ. of Oregon). Photosynthetic bacteria growing in our incubator. Inside the regenerative amplifier Moira working with a phage display system to create novel photocatalysts Elad constructing the first GRAPES machine. Phil culturing a new batch of photosynthetic bacteria for study. Sometimes scientific questions require creative solutions; here we made our own circuit board for an experiment. Graham's baby shower. He is preparing to raise the next generation of laser jock. Working in the laser lab to take new data. Working inside the noncolinear optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) Jorge and Pete isolating new proteins for study. Tenure Party! Enjoying one another's company outside the lab. Cheers! Occasionally, Greg still gets to touch the laser, but only when the students aren't looking. Synthesizing new molecules to isolate design principles for quantum transport. Hard at work tuning the laser Kenley and Aaron. Aaron is our youngest group member (expected graduation: 2036). Aaron is working on simple quantum models; it's all about baby steps.
